The Art of Exploration with Neil Rizos
The Nature Journaling Workshop is for those who would like to learn how to draw birds, other animals and plants from 2D reference material, with the intention of becoming proficient. It can include drawing from live animals when possible. There will be how-to demonstrations, individual instruction and abundant drawing time. This may be presented as a full day workshop or multi-day workshop, (up to three days)

Classroom Component
Drawing nature from life can be a rewarding experience if undertaken with a knowledge of the tools, materials and the subject beforehand.
The Classroom component of the workshop includes a review of the following: Equipment; Materials; Drawing; Species; Expectations; Demonstration; Photography; Resources. It focuses on understanding how to draw accurately from 2D and 3D reference material.
Field Component
The Field component of the workshop includes the following:
Applying what has been learned; Demonstration; Photography for reference; Critique; Q&A - Conclusion.
Expected Achievements
Nature Journaling Workshop participants can expect to gain the fundamental knowledge required to approach the field sketching of birds and other animals and plants with confidence. Practicing this approach consistently will improve drawing skills and create a more satisfying journal sketching experience. Participants are encouraged to continue learning about and practicing field sketching and will be provided a list recommended online and print resources.
